The Refinery creative Incubator.

Concept. Program Design. Implementation.

The Refinery Creative Incubator was established in 2019 by Sunshine Coast Council in partnership with SunCentral Inc. and the Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance, The 10-week creative incubator and community building program was designed to transform creative practice and ideas into sustainable businesses and supported over 85 creative entrepreneurs in its first four years (2019-2022).

In 2023, The Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance (SCCA) took the reins of The Refinery with a renewed focus on personal growth and leadership – expanding the program into an extensive all year long professional development platform, with the creative incubator at the centre.

Refinery was developed through an extensive 18-month engagement process involving Central Queensland University, University of the Sunshine Coast, The Innovation Centre, Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance, representatives of the Sunshine Coast business, start-up and creative community.

The Refinery was designed to build the critical skills and networks for a sophisticated, sustainable and reputable creative sector on the Sunshine Coast.

The inaugural program was delivered in partnership with QUT’s Creative Enterprise Australia and the 2022 program in partnership with Impact Boom.

The Refinery was established through my role as Team Leader Creative Development at Sunshine Coast Council.
